
Dear colleagues,
It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of our dear colleague and BATA Council member, Professor Daniel Newman. His loss is felt profoundly by all who had the privilege of working with him and knowing him personally.
From the very beginning, he played a pivotal role in contributing to the work of BATA, helping in shaping its vision and laying the foundations upon which it continues to grow today. His commitment, insight, and dedication were instrumental to the work of BATA and beyond.
A distinguished leader in the field of Arabic Studies and translation, he was widely respected for his scholarship and his active engagement in research. His work enriched our discipline and inspired colleagues and students alike. Through his intellectual generosity and unwavering commitment to academic excellence, he contributed immensely to advancing the field.
Beyond his professional achievements, he was also a valued friend and a wonderful colleague. Many of us will remember his kindness, his thoughtful conversations, and the warmth he brought to our academic community. His presence will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy will continue through the work he helped build and through the many people he inspired.
