Rescheduled Inaugural International Conference on the Teaching of Arabic Language, Culture, Literature and Linguistics

University of Leeds, 24 & 25 June 2021.

The British Association of Teachers of Arabic (BATA) and the University of Leeds are very pleased to invite you to the BATA Inaugural International Conference, to be held at the University of Leeds in 24 & 25 June 2021.

The Conference is designed to offer a platform for teachers of Arabic language, culture, literature and linguistics from the United Kingdom, and beyond, to exchange ideas, share good practice and disseminate their scholarship and activities to a wider audience. It also aims at facilitating greater collaboration and links between teachers of Arabic at all levels in the UK and abroad.

In this spirit, we look forward to proposals considering the following Themes:

Submission of Abstracts:

Abstracts can be submitted in both Arabic and English. Arabic abstracts should be accompanied with a brief summary in English. Abstracts should not exceed 300 words, with clear goals and relevance to the theme of the conference.

The Conference invites abstracts from individuals and panels. Individual papers will be grouped by themes and assigned a chair.

Panels should consist of a minimum of four papers, with a clear objective and relevance to the theme of conference.

All abstracts should be submitted by no later than January 31, 2021. Proposals will be blind reviewed by members of the organising Committee. Participants will be notified of the outcome of their submission by no later than February 25, 2021. Talks will be allocated 20 minutes and 10 minutes for Q&A.

Submissions should contain the following:

  1. Author name(s),
  2. Affiliation and a contact e-mail address,
  3. Title of the presentation,
  4. Abstract in the language of the presentation (250-300 words). The language used in the abstract will be considered the language of presentation at the Conference.
  5. A short summary of your abstract (max. 150 words) in English (if the language of the presentation is not English)
  6. Submission for panels should include a chair as well.
  7. References and figures can be added.
  8. Please submit the abstract in pdf format

Poster proposals must contain the following:

  1. Author name(s),
  2. Affiliation and a contact e-mail address,
  3. Title of the poster,
  4. Abstract in Arabic or English (250-300 words).
  5. A short summary of your abstract (max. 150 words) in English (if the language of the poster is not English)
